President John Evans Atta Mills on Friday asked the Muslim community in Ghana to use the celebration of the birthday of Holy Prophet Mohammed as a point of reflection on how to contribute more towards the improvement of humanity.
He said as followers Holy Prophet Mohammed, the father of Islam, who sacrificed for humanity, the best gift to offer on his birthday, was a renewal of commitment for love for each other, peace and national development.
President Mills, who gave the advice when he called on the National Chief Imam and National Council of Muslim Chiefs on the eve of the Prophet’s birthday celebration on Saturday, reminded Muslims that as beneficiaries of the good deeds of the Holy Prophet, a lot was required of them.
Conveying the government’s best wishes to the Muslim community on the occasion, President Mills expressed appreciation to the leadership of the community for the cooperation and support offered the government, and assured them that his administration would continue to promote their welfare.
“We are wish with you and we share in your joy,” he told the Muslim chiefs amidst excitement among hundreds of Muslims who thronged the Chief Imam’s Fadama residence in Accra to witness the event.
To demonstrate government’s support for a successful celebration, the government donated 30 bags of rice, two bulls and an unspecified amount of money to the chiefs.
Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, the National Chief Imam, welcoming the President, thanked him for the show of concern and the best wishes.
He prayed for national progress and the success for the government, and assured government of their continuous cooperation.
