Academic work resumes at the Takoradi Technical Institute (TTI) on Tuesday July 27 to pave way for the continuation of the promotion examinations which began on Monday but were halted due to the student disturbances.

This followed a series of meetings between the school Board of governors, management and the metropolitan directorate of education on one side, and the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), on the other hand.

All stakeholders will on Monday July 26 meet the SRC and the entire student’s body to discuss issues relating to the Monday July 19 disturbances that rocked TTI.

That day, some part time students prevented their full- time counterparts from taking the English Language paper complaining about improper teaching, supply of school uniforms and books, classroom and dormitory facilities.

They also attempted to burn the school bus and a car belonging to a member of staff besides breaking louvres in eight classrooms the office of a teacher.
The Vice Principal of TTI in charge of Administration Mr. Benjamin Botwe who spoke to the “Times” on the outcome of the meetings said the (SRC) and students have shown interest to come back to take the examination.

Mr. Botwe said before the Monday meeting the school management and other partners would meet the Parent – Teacher Association (P TA) on the matter because “we know their wards had made some complaints to them”.
“If all these meetings are successfully hopefully we will resume the examinations on Tuesday”.

Adding that, the security agencies had given the assurance that, the way was clear for academic work to resume but they would continue to maintain a 24- hour surveillance at the school until all the matters had been resolved.

The Metropolitan Director of Education for Nana Kofi Adjei Imbeah told the Times that one of the critical areas that needed to be tackled was security at the school, adding “the police are part of all discussions and have assured us that there was no cause for alarm.”
