Stanbic Bank has been voted Best Investment Bank in Ghana by the prestigious world acclaimed EMEA Finance Magazine.
The award which is one of a clean sweep by the Bank’s Group, Standard Bank, is in recognition of Stanbic Bank Ghana’s strength in corporate and investment banking in the 2010/2011 period.
The Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Alhassan Andani commenting on the awards noted that for Ghana and most emerging markets, Investment banking was a critical delivery mechanism fuelling key sectors of their economies in the areas of infrastructure development, commodities, oil and gas and telecommunications and cash crop production.
EMEA Finance magazine is a prominent finance magazine concentrating on financial activities in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and it is a distinguished source of information for the finance industry in the EMEA region.
It is dedicated exclusively to reporting financial events, happenings and triumphs initiated and influenced by the international financial industry.
“Ghana is sprawling with infrastructure development. The demand for expert services and advice in the investment banking sphere is so critical in the areas of structured project financing, equity and debt capital markets among others,” he said.

Director of the Bank’s Corporate and Investment (CIB) Department, Kwamina Asomaning, for his part said the award, the first to be given a Ghanaian Bank, was a demonstration of the strength and expertise of the Bank’s CIB team which has resulted in landmark deals and projects.
“With the support of our vast network in Africa and across the globe, Stanbic Bank Ghana has been able to leverage skills and synergies of our people across borders to provide investment banking solutions for our clients. Our capabilities have resulted in the financing of key projects which have contributed to where we are today as a nation,” he said.
Stanbic Bank’s Corporate and Investment banking outfit has brokered a number of landmark deals in Ghana.
The Bank financed Ghana’s first A-Grade Hotel, the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel and also financed Ghana’s largest shopping Mall, the Accra Shopping Mall.
Besides these, the Bank has contributed significantly to financing key government Agencies such as the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Volta River Authority (VRA), the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
This EMEA Finance African Banking awards is a virtual sweep for the Standard Bank Group. The Group has been adjudged Best Bank in Africa and in addition won Best Investment Bank in seven other African countries including South Africa, Nigeria, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Swaziland and Tanzania.
