The South American trio, billed as opponents in Saturday's boxing bonanza scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium arrived on Monday night at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) beaming with confidence.
The boxers were accompanied by their trainers and medical staff and were met on arrival by Mr. Henry Manly-spain, a board member of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and members of Goldenmike Boxing Promotion led by Mr. Mike Tetteh, the chief executive officer, Emmanuel Commey and Benjamin Okai.
The three, Amilcar Funes from Argentina, Santos Benavides from Nicaragua and Eduardo Flores from Ecuador will be fighting for the first time in Ghana against respective Ghanaian opponents in championship bouts.
Funes will challenge Ghana's Joshua Okine for the latter's WBO Interim welterweight title; Benavides will also seek to end Emmanuel Tagoe's dominance and snatch the IBF Intercontinental featherweight belt while Flores attempt to wrestle the WBO Africa super lightweight strap as he faces Ebenezer Lamptey.
The three boxers told this paper on arrival that they are in very good shape and are ready to face their respective opponents despite their anticipated odd reception by the fans on the fight night.
Namibian champion, Martin Haikali also arrived yesterday on board Namibia Airways to engage Samuel Amoako of Ghana, the same opponent he defeated to win the title, in his mandatory defense.
Hamza Wandera, the challenger for the WBO Africa light heavyweight defense against Braimah Kamoko, aka Bukom Banku, according to Goldenmike Promotion chief executive officer, Mike Tetteh will arrive tomorrow to complete the list of foreign pugilists expected to thrill local boxing fans.
The evening will also see an all Ghanaian clashes in two different weight categories.
Ishmael Aryeetey will slug it out with Hope Mawuli for the national featherweight belt while Isaac Nettey comes face to face with Joshua Barnor in a final eliminator for the national super bantamweight strap.
