Wonder kid Rahim Banda, who is sensationally gunning for the 2011 Best Actor award, has disclosed that he has been placed under a stern regime of checks to guide him from growing ‘bad.’

The 11-year-old actor born to popular music-cum-movie producer, Ahmed Banda, of the famous Bandex Productions fame, revealed that his father has consistently advised him not to allow fame and stardom to ‘spoil’ his manners and derail his future.

He admitted stardom goes hand-in-hand with both negative and positive attributes, and as such has vowed not to engage in any “negative things” that would make him “a bad boy and destroy my future!”
Some of the ‘negative things’, he indicated, include: “Feeling big about yourself, being disrespectful, undisciplined and pride.

Some celebrities sometimes think they are important than others, and my father talks to me about these things and say they are not good, so I should concentrate on my books and grow up,” he said.

Rahim made the remark in an exclusive interview with ‘Spectator Agoro,’ during the premiere of his latest movie – Behind The Mask – in his school (Glow Lamb Preparatory School at Spintex, Accra) last Friday.

Rahim, who started acting at age 9, has now featured in five movies, such as ‘The Beast,’ ‘Millions’ and ‘Masters of the Game’ – and has been nominated for the ‘Best Actor In Lead Role’ at forthcoming Ghana Movie Awards slated for Christmas Day – December 25. He is contesting the award with four strong competitors, namely Majid Michel, Van Vicker, Chris Attoh and Samuel Ofori.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be nominated for the best actor award. But if u asked me whether I would win or not, I’ll say I don’t know yet because there are big names there and it feels threatening,” Rahim said, as he counted his chances of becoming the youngest actor ever in the country to win the ‘Best Actor’ actor.

Asked about whether he has a girlfriend or not, Rahim exclaimed: “NO oooo, I don’t have a girlfriend. Because I appear in movies, some of the girls in my school even try to go away from me and pretend as if I don’t matter to them.

“But I know they care about me a lot. I take it that, maybe, they don’t want people to say they’re getting close to me because I act. All the same, I try my best to fraternise and make friends because as a known figure or person, I have to accept people and not the other way round,” he added.

Touching on how come his latest movie was premiered in his school, Rahim explained: “That was a condition I gave to my father.
Anytime I feature in a movie, my classmates and teachers ask me how I do it.

So, this time around, I told my father that if he really wants me to feature in his next production, then he should come and premiere this one in my school – for me to watch with my friends and teachers,” he explained.

‘Behind The Mask’ features Rahim in a lead role, alongside other notable actors like Timothy Bentum, Kalsoume Sinare, Nadia Buari and Prince David Osei. It tells a fascinated story of sheer covetousness and wickedness embellished with snippets of metaphysics.

Bandex, the producer, explained he allowed his son to feature in the movie “because I realised he could deliver. I’m his father and I’ve been monitoring him, so immediately the story was developed, I knew Rahim was the right person to fix there.

“I also understand that he is still a child and in school, so we only shoot when he is on vacations,” he said, adding: “That’s one way not to disturb his academic work and put a lot of pressure on him.”
