The Director General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Dr. Abdulai Baba Salifu has urged stakeholders to place more emphasis on Information Communication and Technology (ICT) to help in the country’s development.
He said ICT would promote new technologies, adding it is the order of the day which needs to be taken seriously.
The Director General said this at the opening ceremony of a two-week workshop on “Web 2.0 Learning Opportunities” organized by the Technical Centre of Agriculture and Rural Co-operation (CTA) in collaboration with the Council in Accra on Monday.
The workshop seeks to improve the skills of participants in the use of ICT for agricultural development.
Topics to be treated include Web 2.0 Concepts and principle, selective access to information, remote collaboration on Google and online mapping, online publishing and professional social networking.
Dr. Salifu advised participants to take the course seriously and to share the knowledge acquired to others who did not have the privilege to attend.
Dr. Rodger Obubo, the CTA Regional Training Coordinator in an address said the workshop will help improve access to relevant, adequate, accurate, timely and well-adapted information topics on ICT and rural development.
He said at the end of the course participants would be able to subscribe to social networking sites, publish their own content online using blogging application, develop content on assigned topics using Goggles, utilizing online mapping tools effectively and developing action plans for use as of collaborative tools in institutions in the region.
Dr. Obubo commended government and the CSIR for their dedication in organizing the training.
