As part of its activities to mark the celebration of the Ga Homowo Festival, the Orokoto Cultural Group put up a fine display of songs, dance and drama last weekend at Lartebiokoshie, in Accra.
The event was patronized by both Ghanaian and foreign visitors some of whom could not hide their delight by jumping on the stage to imitate the intricate steps of the dancers.
According to Ian Nakai Nettey, director of the group, the aim of Orokoto is to introduce blend both traditional and contemporary forms of music and dance using only native instruments including drums, xylophone, flutes and others.
He added that the group, which featured at the Easter Paragliding Festival, 2011 at Kwahu, Accra City Carnival, and the 100 years Anniversary of Ghana's first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah ,organizes drumming, composing and dance workshops to unearth more talents as well as create job opportunities for the youth.
