Former Deputy Education and Sports Minister OB Amoah who was arrested on Sunday night in connection with the Alfred Woyome Judgement debt payment controversy has been released on a police enquiry bail.
A source close to the police told the Times that Mr. Amoah was released on a GH¢20 million bail with two sureties after he was charged for causing financial loss to the state.
He was arrested for his alleged role in the GH¢51 million payment to Alfred Woyome a businessman.
Mr Amoah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Aburi-Nsawam was said to have been released after Mr. Fred Oware, First Vice Chairman and John Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party respectively stood surety for him.
Mr Amoah is expected to report back to the police, today to assist with investigations.
Prior to his release, however, supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) picketed outside the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters some of them clad in party colours, they kept vigil.
They were said to have embarked on hunger strike on hearing that the MP had been detained after being picked by a team of armed Policemen and investigators at his house at the Parakuo Estate in Accra.
A number of NPP Parliamentarians, former District Chief Executives, party gurus and Mr Amoah’s legal team were also at the headquarters to show solidarity with him.
Mr. Amoah was being interrogated when the Times got to the CID headquarters.
Though the Police were tightlipped on the reasons for his Times, learnt that Mr. Amoah was arrested and charged provisionally for causing financial loss to the state when he was a deputy minister in connection with judgement debt paid to Mr. Woyome.
The NPP aspiring MP for Adenta, Frances Asiam, condemned the mode of the arrest describing it as unprofessional.
After all, she said, Mr. Amoah made his intention known to the Police that he was ready to make himself available if he was invited to assist in the Woyome case and questioned the manner in which he was picked.
The Convention People’s Party parliamentary aspirant for Kintampo North, Mr. Kwabena Bomfeh, said the arrest of Mr. Amoah was unfortunate and wondered if the Police would also arrest the Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffour, Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General and other actors in the judgement debt, Saga.
