INTER-dependence has proved to be the most effective way of accelerating the pace of economic development of many nations.

Most of the economic giants such as the United States of America, United Kingdom Canada, France and China, among others, have established trade links with other nations to keep their economies running.

In this present world economic order, no country can afford to be an island onto itself.

It is in this light that the Times views the current trips by President John Evans Atta Mills to Canada and the USA to woo investors to open up the country’s industrial base for accelerated development, as a step in the right direction.

The massive investments that have followed most of his previous visits to America, Europe, Asia, China, among other, are visible enough for people to see.

It is a fact that some of the benefits which have accrued from the President’s foreign trips have gone to support the various sectors of the economy to grow.

The latest assurance by the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) declaring its intension to increase investment in Ghana as well as partner the country to explore various opportunities for development, means a lot for the country’s future.

“We are ready to cooperate fully with Ghana,” said Mark Whittingham, President of the CCC, which is currently working on about two-billion dollar development projects in the power, mining, rail, health, aviation oil and gas sector in Ghana.

Giving the state of the nation’s economy, the only option for the country to develop as fast as possible, is to look for the needed external assistance in terms of investment which would create job opportunities and solve the youth unemployment situation.

If Ghanaians want to look internally for development, then it pre-supposes that they have to work and generate their own internal resources to support their ambition.

Unfortunately, this is not so of most Ghanaians, while they dream living in paradise, they do not want to work towards the nation’s progress.

It is important for all who clamour for the good life to realize that they cannot climb the success ladder with their hands in their pockets.

We hope Ghanaians would appreciate these foreign trips by the leadership of the country which are purposely meant to build the economy for a brighter future.
