The Ministry of Education has granted amnesty to all teachers who have pursued degree programmes without the approval of the ministry.
They are therefore not enjoying the study leave with or without pay, which they are entitled.
The amnesty also covers teachers who are pursuing degree programmes in any university, and they are required to officially write to report their status within three months, effective of the date of the directive.
This is contained in a statement issued in Accra on last Wednesday and signed by Mr Mahama Ayariga, a Deputy Minister of Education.
The statement said the ministry had directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take steps to re-absorb all teachers who had completed their degree courses without the study leave from the GES.
It continued that the ministry shall assist the GES to identify, verify and compile the list of all teachers in this category.
To this end, it counsels that, all those who fall within this group should either submit their applications to their various district education directorates or apply directly to the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Tertiary education.
"The ministry then shall liaise with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to deal with the financial issues in the implementation of the policy," it said.
Again the Ministry of Education was working with experts to expand the frontiers of distance learning to ensure greater access for degree programmes by teachers across the country without losing their services in the process, the statement concluded.
