The Minister of Education, Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrissu has inaugurated two new dormitories and for the Ada and Manya Krobo Senior High Schools.
The GH¢447,000 dormitories, were constructed by Berock Ventures Limited, an Accra-based construction company, and funded by the African Development Bank through the Development of Senior Secondary Education Project (DSSEP).
Inaugurating the dormitories at separate ceremonies here on Tuesday, the Minister said the government’s better agenda was on course and that the government was committed to improving education in the country hence the chunk of the national budget being allocated to the education sector.
She said there was huge infrastructural gap among the 550 Senior High Schools (SHS) in the country which the government was determined to address.
“The infrastructural gap facing the SHS cannot be address in a day. Government will not renege on its duty to provide educational facilities for the schools and will work gradually to address them,” she stated and adopts proper maintenance Culture to ensure longer life-span of the facilities.
She advised the students to be disciplined and study hard to become responsible citizens in future; stressing education was one of the surest ways to secure their future.
Mrs Mould-Iddrissu commended the management of Berock Ventures Limited for completing the projects ahead of time and urged them to expedite action on the remaining two-storey dormitory block for the Ada Senior High School.
At the Manya Krobo Senior High School, she pledged to facilitate the construction of a teacher’s dormitory to address the accommodation problem facing teachers at the school.
Both headmasters of the schools, commended government for the projects, which they saidwould help address the student accommodation problems.
Mr Jacob T. Tugah, headmaster of the Ada SHS expressed his gratitude to government for the project and appealed to government to provide the school with a bus to address its transportation problem.
He also said the school land being encroached upon and appealed to corporate bodies and government to help fence the school.
Rev Isaac Sackey Kwao, headmaster of Manya Krobo SHS also paid glowing tribute to government for the project and appealed to government to provide the school with a teacher’s dormitory.
The Director of Monitoring, Evaluation and Control of Berock Ventures Limited, Samuel E. Kornu said the company was able to complete the projects ahead of time due to prudent planning and the judicious use of resources available to the company.
He commended the management and teachers of the school as well as students for their support and co-operation, which result in the early completion of the projects.
Mr Kornu said the project should been completed in January and handed over to the schools, but said the company worked hard to complete them ahead of time.
