With the successful election of its Presidential Candidate, the People’s Convention Party(PNC) says it is fully awake and is the party to watch in the December general elections.

“Our fortunes in 2012 elections will be different from other elections since the beginning of the Fourth Republic,”Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, Chairman of the party told the Times by phone on Wednesday.

The Chairman of the party urged the electorate to buy into the manifesto of the party and vote massively for its Presidential Candidate ,Hassan Ayariga, and its Parliamentary Candidates for the party to form the next government to turn around the fortunes of the country.

He said PNC has not been faring well in the Presidential elections and often place third after the two major political parties, National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party and the Parliamentary fortunes of the Party had been stagnating and in some case dwindled as well.

But Alhaji Ramadan said the PNC would witness a fortune turn around at the December polls saying that “we are going to do things differently, the PNC will be the party to watch in 2012 elections.”

Alhaji Ramadan admitted that the electorate did not know much about the party and that the party had developed a strategy to increase its electoral fortunes in the elections.

To this end, the Chairman of the Nkrumahist party said the party had put in place a Cadre Core Programme involving a team of between 25 and 30 young people well motivated and resourced, in each of the 230 constituency who were charged with the responsibilities of door-to-door educating the electorate on “what PNC stands for and what we are going to do different.”

“With his kind of education we are convinced that the electorate would better appreciate our party’s manifesto and would like to give us the mandate to rule,”Alhaji Ramadan said.

Alhaji Ramadan further explained that the party was going to break down its manifesto into a six-page document reader friendly document to explain our planned policies and programmes to the electorate for them to make informed decision on their voting pattern.

The Chairman said the PNC had contributed a lot to the socio-economic development but had not been fortunate enough to get the mandate of the electorate to rule adding “because of that other parties are making use of our ideas.”

Alhaji Ramadan said social interventions like the National Health Insurance Scheme, School Feeding Programme, establishment of Women and Children’s Ministry as well as the GETFUND were brain child of the party under the leadership of the former flagbearer,Edward Mahama.

The PNC at its congress in Sunyani last Saturday elected Hassan Ayariga, an entrepreneur ,as its Presidential Candidate beating Edward Mahama, who had unsuccessfully led the party to four Presidential elections and has opened nominations in all the constituency for Parliamentary Candidates.
