LESDEP Trains 527 Youth In Upper East

Five hundred and twenty seven youth in the Upper East Region have been trained under the Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP)

They studied various trade vocations to make them self-employable and reliant.

Of the number, 115 were trained in mobile phone repairs, 128 in beauty care services, 126 in hair dressing, 45 in Catering Services, 45 in barbering and 48 in rural transport service.

MR. ROBERT AGAAB, Upper East Regional Co-ordinator of the Programme, said the training Programme, which was being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, was designed to equip the youth with self-employable skills.

According to him, the programme would not only stop the youth from migrating to urban centres in search of non-existents jobs but encourage them to stay in the rural areas to practice their trades.

In an interview with the “Times” after their graduation ceremony on Thursday Mr. Agaab said all the beneficiary trained would be provided with their requisite tools equipment and logistics to commence their work officials of LESDEP he said, would monitor the operations of the trainees closely and constantly until their were well established.

Mr. Edward Ayagle, Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, said in the government could not employ every one into the formal sector hence the LESDEP trains 527 youth in Upper East Region introduction of LESDEP under the National Youth Employment Programme.

He commended the beneficiaries for taking advantage of the training modules to learn various trades.

He appealed to all graduates from the educational institutions ranging from the basic to University level to form groups and take advantage of LESDEP to actively participate in the economic development of the country.
