The Presbyterian Boys High School (PRESEC), Legon, has celebrated its 72nd anniversary, with a call on parents to ensure that the student body rises up to the virtues of discipline which is the hall mark of the Presbyterian education.

The headmaster, Mr. Africanus Anane, who made the call, said “discipline is the bedrock of success in every human endeavour hence the call on students to strive to attain it”.

Speaking on the theme, “Building quality human resource for national development; the role of the old boys”, he stated that in its quest to promote the right learning environment for the 21st century, the school had equipped the computer room with an electronic interactive board, a modern visualiser, and an electronic slate to improve the technological skills of the students and foster critical thinking and collaboration among them.

“It is my hope that we would be facilitating student- centred classrooms which would encourage our students to have the sense of self- direction and higher – order thinking which would make them operate in any world of work they find themselves in,” Mr. Anane added.

On some of the challenges facing the school, he lamented that only 20 per cent of the 225 staff resides in the school.

“I will continue to say that the effectiveness with which we always want to execute our strategies for effective and efficient academic work gets affected greatly due to this accommodation challenge facing us”, he stressed.

Mr. Anane appealed to the old students to assist to build a library complex which has much space for the students to undertake a serious academic research which will inspire them to greater heights.

Prof. Seth K.A. Danso, a retired professor at the University of Ghana, the guest of honour, advised the old students not to relent on their oars in support for the school since their contributions will be evidence of the impact that Presec had in shaping their future.

The school was established in 1938, and currently has a student population of 2,714, made up of 1,430 boarders and 1,284 day students.
