The Institutional Review Sub-Committee on Education of the National Accreditation Board has paid a two-day official working visit to the University of Education, Winneba.

The committee, led by Prof. Sulemana Al-Hassan, reviewed the programmes of the University and also toured some on- going infrastructural project sites.

The Pro Vice Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Mawutor Avoke, led the members of the committee to tour the three campuses in Winneba.

They inspected the multi- purpose examination hall with seating capacity of 2000 students at the North Campus

They also visited the new block with offices for Deans currently under construction also at the North campus.

On the South Campus, the team visited the library and was shown the library automation project currently taking place. The team also visited the performing theatre at the central campus.

At the GETfund hostel on the North Campus, the team was impressed with the facilities at the premises and where happy with comments from most of the students at the place.

They commended management of UEW for the rapid infrastructural development over the past few years and praised them for the bold steps taken to connect most of the campus hostel facilities to the wireless internet. They urged the University to do more on its road development.

The Finance Officer of UEW, Mr. Benjamin Kpodo told the committee that GETFUND had contracted Alpha Properties to provide security and ensure adequate cleaning of the hostel.

Prof. Avoke, after the inspection, assured the team of management’s preparedness in ensuring that the mandate given to the institution is fully complied with.

He said UEW was taking the required steps to address some of the challenges confronting it.

Prof. Avoke said access to quality education should go beyond the provision of adequate infrastructure to include modern text books and uninterrupted access to the internet for academic work and research.

He said UEW in 2010 laid a fiber optic cable throughout its satellite campuses to enhance efficient and effective access to internet for research activities and academic work.

The acting Registrar, Mr. Rex Abedi-Boafo, acting Internal Auditor Ms Sena Dake and Works Director of Physical Development Mr. Fiifi Yankson, were among those who joined the Pro Vice Chancellor to conduct the Institution Review Committee around the infrastructural development of the University.
