On Friday, illegal miners (galamseyers) at Damang near Tarkwa, went on rampage and destroyed property in the area.
The six, according to the police, were part of a mob of illegal miners, who burned a car believed to belong to the chief of Amoanda, Nana Kofi Ngoro II, at Hunivalley.
The mob were protesting their eviction from the Damang Mines by a military-cum police task force who are conducting an operation code-named “Open flush out”.
They smashed the glasses of a 16-seater bus belonging to the Gold Fields Ghana Limited (GFGL), blocked the main Damang road and allegedly looted a shop of bags of rice meant for the workers of GFGL.
Over 2,500 illegal miners had occupied the Kwabena Aho part of GFGL mining concession, mining gold and also degrading the environment.
When the task force under the command of Major George Honyedzi went to flush them out of the area, after a peaceful dialogue, they turned violent and rampaged the Damang community.
