Ivy Nkrumah, the 20 –year old househelp, who faked a pregnancy, had been remanded into Police custody by an Accra Circuit Court.
She was remanded by the court presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa to re-appear until December 16.
The Station Officer of the Domestic Violence of the Victims Support (DOVVSU), Inspector WhoKnows Attipoe who briefed the Times on the Court proceedings said Ivy, was charged for court for defrauding by false pretence and deceit of a public officer.
It was recalled that Ivy was arrested on December 16, for faking a pregnancy.
She was said to have stuffed rags around her stomach in order to collect monies from her boyfriend, Francis Osei Bonsu.
Somewhere in June this year the accused reported a case to DOVVSU that her boyfriend, Bonsu a businessman, has impregnated her and had failed to cater for her.
DOVVSU referred the case to the Social Welfare where Bonsu was asked to remit an amount of GH¢50 every month and also take care of her medical expenses till she delivered.
Subsequently Bonsu started paying the moneys through the Social Welfare to Ivy.
Later Bonsu suspected that Ivy was not pregnant and decided to stop paying the money and was later called by the officials of the Social Welfare to explain why.
Social Welfare then referred the case to a Family Tribunal Court in Accra where it was decided that Bonsu pays GH¢100 every month and rent a place for her.
Bonsu was said to have paid GH¢100 once and did not pay again because he was still suspicious that Ivy was not really pregnant.
Inspector Attipoe said when he failed to pay the next month, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest on December 9.
At the court, Bonsu insisted that he suspected the pregnancy was faked.
He said the court therefore conducted an examination on her and realized that Ivy had tied rags around and she was subsequently arrested.
