The official sponsors of Ghana’s Black Stars, Globacom, has sent a message of goodwill to the national team in their second-leg qualifying encounter against the Red Devils Congo on Friday, and urged the team to ‘go all out’ to seal off its dominance right from the group stages.
The Black Stars beat Congo 3-0 in a first leg encounter last March but shares seven points apiece with Sudan but top Group 1 on goal superiority.
A release issued today by Glo,copied to GNA Sports, said the Black Stars of today are heavily endowed with talent, skill, pedigree and an unstoppable sense of mission, all of which are critical ingredients for a convincing victory in Friday’s encounter against the Congolese.
“As sponsors of the Black Stars, we cherish the consistency with which the Ghana national team has asserted its authority in African soccer; against that background, we would expect the team to consider each one and each stage of the qualifying series as crucial,” the release said.
The Black Stars plunged into serious training on Thursday, May 26, at the Ohene Djan stadium, Accra for Friday’s encounter which will draw the winner closer to qualification for the 2012 African Cup of Nations scheduled to be hosted jointly in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
“Like most Ghanaians, we at Globacom have observed with pride that the Black Stars has transformed completely since their epic performance at the 2010 World Cup. The team’s gallant performance against England at Wembley and their earlier defeat of Congo by a convincing 3-0 margin are demonstrative of their formidable form and strongly affirms the team’s well-deserved ranking as the number one team in Africa”, the release added.
Glo has been the headline sponsor of Ghana’s male National Teams as well as the Glo Premier League since 2009 and is the sole sponsor of Ghana’s football supporting group – the Ghana National Supporters’ Union (GHANSU).
Last February, Glo stepped up its support for the sport and for the national team when the company unveiled the ace Black Stars’ striker, Asamoah Gyan as its brand ambassador.
