Ghana will hit the target of 1,000.000.000 (one million) metric
tons of cocoa beans by the end of the 2010-2011 cocoa seasons.
The Executive Director of the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana
Dr.Frankline Manu Amoah announced this at the first Cocoa Research
Senior Citizens and retired workers get- together at Tafo on Friday.
He explained that the current records available indicate that
the nation is above 9,000.000 metric tons and it is expected that by
the end of the lean season Ghana would have achieved her aim.
He said that Management of CRIG is living no stone unturned turn to achieve
the set target for Ghana and to sustain it or be the world number one
in 2012 and beyond.
He attributed the achievement to the prudent measures put in place by
the stakeholders and especially the innovative development by the
Cocoa Research Institute to the farmers.
‘Our major achievement is through the provision of the right
Agricultural Good Practices (GAP) like the application of the
fertilizers, pruning, and etc’, he said.
Dr.Amoah said that the aim of the get-together was to interact,
socialize and seek advised and above all, to show appreciation to the
senior citizens for being pioneers and contributing immensely to the
up-keep of the Institute.
He announced that CRIG Management has chosen the Republic Day as CRIG
Senior Citizens Day and would ensure that every year the Seniors and
retire workers would the fruit of their labour on that day.
The Chairman for CRIG Management Committee, Prof Oteng Yeboah thanked
the senior citizens and the retired workers for honouring the
invitation and said it shows that they have the company on heart.
He urged them not to stay at home but visit the workers at the
Institute as an exercise to keep them fit always.
The Institute used the occasion to honour over 100 senior citizens
and retired workers who attended the programme. Among them is Mr.
Edward Addo Ankrah, the first blackman to be employed as a LibraryClerk in 1946 at CRIG.
