This year’s International Museum Day has been marked with a call on Ghanaians to acquire in – depth knowledge about the activities of Museum.
The International Museum Day which is celebrated on May 18 each year.
This year the theme is “Museums in a changing world, new challenges, new inspirations.”
Mr. Alex Okpei, Volta regional Director of Museums noted that the celebration of the day is to increase public awareness development of society.
He indicated that the world is changing faster than ever, with new technology delivering new ideas this will enable Ghanaians to understand and appreciate the role of museums.
It would also help the media to discover and rediscover the future of museums.
He said it was in that direction that his outfit had teamed up with ASRuD, a local non governmental organisation for this year’s celebration.
Mr. Okpei appealed to society not to carry the perception that museums where places where ancient remains are kept but other see it as institution with opportunity to discover as rediscover how we are looking to the future in terms of sustainable development.
Present at the forum were students of the Wallah’s Academy.
The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Henry Ametefe, in an interview urged the pubic to acquire more indepth knowledge into the activities of museums.
That, he said, would broaden their knowledge to know about things happening in their environment.
He assured of more budgetary allocation for the Museum Board to carry out their work to reach the wider population in the region.
