The Ghana Library Board has embarked on a mobile library project, to give access to children in rural and remote areas in Atiwa and the Kwahu North districts in the Eastern Region.
The vans will target mainly communities where there are no library facilities, Mr. Guy Amarteifio, Regional Librarian, made this known when a US-based Ghanaian family who hails from Koforidua donated shelves, tables and notice boards at a cost of $4,000 to the regional library in Koforidua.
He said the regional library, which was supposed to be the pillar of education had no facilities such as projectors and furniture to meet the benchmark.
Mr Amarteifio therefore appealed to public-spirited individuals and organisations to support the growth of libraries since it was the bedrock of education.
He thanked Professor Kwamena Panford, who made the donation on behalf of the family, for the kind gesture.
