The Ministry of Education and the China Communications Services Corporation Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work toward the deployment of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Ghana’s school system.
The MoU is intended to create an avenue for the provision of required ICT logistics, hardware and services including training and technical support for public pre-tertiary schools in the country.
At the signing ceremony in Accra, Mr. Alex Tettey-Enyo, the sector Minister, acknowledged that ICT was the cornerstone of the country’s economy.
“This arrangement is in line with the ministry’s commitment to partner other stakeholders, particularly the private sector, to implement programmes and initiatives aimed at the deployment and exploitation of ICTs to facilitate and improve its administrative operations, activities and management as well as its service delivery to the public at large,” he stressed.
Mr. Tettey-Enyo therefore re-affirmed the ministry’s commitment to its vision of “coordinating and promoting the confident and creative use of ICT tools and resources by learners and workers to achieve personal and corporate goals and be active participants in the knowledge economy by 2015.”
He pointed out that the effective utilisation of ICT in education, potentially enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of teaching and provides a country with a pool of well-trained and skilled labour.
The Senior Executive Officer of the Chinese company, Mr. Yuan Tao, expressed the willingness of his company to support the great efforts of the Ghana Government and to help in achieving the country’s policy and development goals.
He thanked the Government for the opportunity accorded his company to promote ICT education in schools in the country.
