THE first-ever Ghallywood Film Festival which opened at the Ghallywood African Film Village at Dawa, near Prampram on Tuesday would be climaxed on Saturday with an awards nite.
The week-long festival expected to end today, December 17, with a Graduation Ceremony is themed: “Films for recreating the African mindset for the challenges of the millennium.”
Mr. William Akuffo, the President of Ghallywood Film Academy, explained that the festival would be an annual event that would screen films produced by the graduates of the school for the general public.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, Mr. Akuffo noted that some of the movies produced by students of the academy “will be entered into international film festivals because of their quality.”
He indicated that in less than two years of it establishment, students of the academy had produced 23 movies, two of which have already been premiered.
“This festival will also reward excellence various categories, such as best lead actor and actress, as well best supporting female and male,” he said, adding that media practitioners who have helped in developing of the movie industry would also be honoured.
“They include Nanabayin Dadson, editor of Graphic Showbiz, Baba Abdulai, formerly of ‘The Spectator,’ and Nii Addokwei Moffatt. There will also be awards for best director, best editor and best videographer and some pioneers in the movie industry.
The week will be filled with seminars, games, entertainment and of course screening of films,” he announced.
