The Ghana Education Service (GES) has tentatively fixed Friday, October 15, as the reporting date for all first-year students who have gained admission to Public Senior High Schools and technical institutes for the 2010/2011 academic year.
The acting Director-General of the GES, Benedicta Naana Biney, who disclosed this to the “Times” yesterday, said “The new date has been communicated to the schools.”
She said “the issue of reporting date for the fresh students was discussed extensively with CHASS and October 15, was arrived at as the most convenient and conducive.
“GES cannot postpone the date indefinitely so the children should report to their schools while we make efforts to solve the furniture and accommodation problem,” she said.
The leadership of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has declined to comment on the matter.
However, the Times has learned that some of the schools have started the admission process for the fresh students.
CHASS and GES have been in disagreement over the reporting date for first year students.
CHASS had appealed to the Ministry of Education and the GES to postpone the opening date to October 30.
The new reporting date, according to CHASS, would enable the government to address the furniture and accommodation problems facing most of the schools.
