The Ghana Education Service (GES) says the reporting date for first year students who have gained admission into public second cycle schools for this academic year, has not changed.

“Officially, the reporting date was last Friday , October 15, but the individual schools which have critical problems with regard to dormitory accommodation and classrooms have been allowed a few days to sort them out, the acting GES Deputy Director-General, Stephen Adu, told the Times on phone yesterday.

He was reacting to reports that the GES had postponed the reporting date of some schools.

Mr. Adu acknowledged that some of the schools have critical problems in accommodating the fresh students but said “GES has not fixed dates for them. We only allowed them some days to brush up depending on their individual situations.

“The district and regional directors of education have been directed to collate lists of schools which for certain reasons, cannot immediately admit the first year students for the necessary action to be taken,” he added.

Although, the GES directed that first year students should report to their various schools October 15, classroom and other facilities meant for them were not ready.

Mr. Adu advised parents to bear with the school authorities as efforts were being made to remedy the situation.
