Four persons yesterday sustained gunshot wounds at Buipe in the Central Gonja district of the Northern Region.
The victims, were believed to have been ambushed were sympathizers of the embattled Buipewura Mahama Abdulai Jinapor.
One of the victim who was in condition was rushed to the Tamale Teaching hospital while the rest were said to be receiving treatment from the Buipe clinic.
Mahama Issifu, a resident of Buipe in a telephone interviewed with Times revealed that there several gun shots in the communities between the hours of 4-5 PM yesterday.
According to him the firing of guns in the area was trigger by the attacked on three young men who were beating gong gong with the instruction that ‘nobody should pay any royalty to the Jinapo.’
He narrated that the young men were beaten till one of them became unconscious.
Issifu stated that when the news got to the family members that the three were attacked by sympathizers of the Jinapo, they also mobilized themselves and revenged by shooting to the moving vehicle injuring the occupants.
Northern Regional Police Commander, ACP George Tuffour, who spoke to the Times, however, could not confirm the number of people injured.
He stated that the police command had dispatched more personnel into the area to prevent further disturbances.
According to sources, no arrest had been made yet as police were still monitoring and carrying out investigation.
