Five suspected armed robbers, including an ex police officer were yesterday arrested by the police at Akweley, at Kasoa in the Central Region.
Another suspect, identified as Baba Sule, was shot dead while he tried to escape.
The suspects, believed to be a gang, are Prince Aidoo, 28, Kofi Akoti, 25, Iddrisu Issaka 33, self-employed, Festus Amoo, ex-police man, and Dzifa Keti, 30, alias Gee, believed to be the ring leader who had been on the police wanted list for some time.
They were said to have shot their victims and robbed them of their mobile phones and unspecified amount of money.
The Kasoa District Commander of Police, Superintendent Ebenezer Kweku Asare, who disclosed the matter to the ‘Times’ said at about 2:50am yesterday, three armed robbery victims with gunshot wounds on their heads and legs lodged a complaint with the police of an alleged attack by some armed robbers wielding guns and cutlasses.
He said following the report, the police informed the monitors team and people in the area who succeeded in arresting Aidoo, Issaka and Amoo in a house at Akweley.
The commander said a search in their house revealed two wrapped substances suspected to be Indian hemp, for which Aidoo claimed ownership.
Supt Asare said while the police were conducting the search they had information that accomplices of the suspects had gathered in a house at Akweley.
He said they proceeded to the place, and on arrival saw three people running away.
“We took the wounded person to the police hospital but died later, however before he died he mentioned one “Demorre” as his accomplice.”
He said a search in Keti’s house revealed cutlasses, a piece of wood with nails stuck on it and a locally manufacture gun.
Supt Asare said the suspects will be put before court after investigations.
He said the victims have been issued with medical forms to enable them attend hospital for treatment.
The crime officer of the station, Moses Naa-Kolgo Agbegne advised the public to report criminal activities to the police.
