The case, in which Dr. Jo Blankson is being challenged over his nomination and installation as Ga Mantse at the Greater Regional House of Chiefs at Dodowa, is drawing to a close as the adjudicating panel has asked the final submissions from the two sides in the case.

At the end of proceedings at its sitting on Friday, the panel directed the counsel for both the plaintiff and the respondent to submit their final addresses on the matter for a decision to be taken.

Nii Owula Kpakpa Blofonyo’s counsel, A. G. Boadu, is expected to present his final address on November 18, two weeks after which Willie Amarfio, counsel for Dr. Bankson, would present his final statement, following which the panel would pronounce judgement.

Two witnesses each were called by the two sides in the case which started in 2006. They were Nii Ashitey Tetteh, Chief Linguist of Asere, and Nii Afra Kwei, Asere Stool priest, from the plaintiff’s side, and Nii Kweitse Ashaley, Agbafoatse, and Nii Adu Mensah, an elder of Akropong We, for the respondent.

It is the main case among four petitions, all of which have been consolidated, praying the House to declare null and void, the nomination and installation of Dr. Blankson as Ga Mantse, claiming his nomination and installation did not follow approved Ga custom.

The panel of the Judicial Committee, chaired by Nii Tette Otu, Kpone Mantse, urged both Counsels to endeavour to make the final submissions so as to end the case.

In 2006, Nii Owula Kpakpa Brofonyo, Ga State Akwashong Mantse (chief warrior), filed the petition against Dr. Blankson, Nii Akropong, head of Akropong We Nai Wulomo (now deceased), Ga Chief Priest against the nomination and installation of the first respondent, claiming they violated Ga custom.

The panel also agreed to give ruling on a submission of no case filed by the Dr. Blankson’s counsel in the other three cases. Although the cases have been consolidated, judgement would be give separately.

The three other cases are Nii Agyeman Kessey versus Dr. Blankson, Ga Traditional Council and Nii Kweitse and Nii Otoga and others versus Dr. Jo Blankson.

Other members of the panel are Nene Abram Kabu Akuoku, Ada Mantse and President of the Regional House of Chiefs, and Nene Tetteh Djane, Prampram Mantse and Vice President of the House.
