Feed Abodom Pupils Too - Assemblywoman
The Assembly woman for the Akyem Abodom Electoral Area of the Kwaebibrim District, Gladys Yamoah, has appealed to government to extend the School Feeding Programme to schools in her area.
“The level of poverty here is very high and as such there is no motivation for children to attend school,” she explained in an interview with the Times after a public forum organised in the town by Projects Abroad Humanrights Office (PAHO).
The forum brought together the chief, opinion leaders, members of the Akyem Abodom District Assembly women and the youth.
Madam Yamoah said extending the feeding facility to schools in the area would reduce the burden on parents and also encourage children to attend school.
She expressed worry about the low educational standard in the area and said the youth in the area did not find schooling attractive.
This situation, she said, had led to increase in cases of teenage pregnancy, and appealed to parents not to shirk their responsibilities towards their children.
“A greater responsibility rests on parents to ensure that their children are monitored and guided so that they are not influenced by bad peer pressure,” she added.
