A 48-year-old farmer at Patasi a farming cottage on the Elu Bo-Enchi road, Barima Yaw Asamoah, on Thursday shot himself dead with a single barreled gun.
Barima, it is suspected, committed the bloody spectacle at 8:00 pm on Thursday because he suspected that his wife whose name the police did not disclose of infidelity.
The “Times” gathered that for some time now as a result of the unbearable harsh economic conditions, the wife left the Patasi Cottage and went and live at Elubo, on the Ghana-Cote d’lvoire border.
The deceased, is said to have shot himself through the mid-portion of his throat.
The body has since been deposited at the Half Assini Government Hospital for autopsy.
The District Police Commander at Half Assin, DSP John F. Dzineku who confirmed the incident explained that, in August, this year, Barima’s wife left their Patasi Cottage for Elubo, when they could not make ends meet.
As the Christmas festivities approached, he said, the deceased invited his wife to join him to celebrate the holidays at Patasi but , the lady rather asked him (Barima) to come over to Elubo.
Meanwhile, DSP Dzineku said information had reached Barima about the wife’s activities at Elubo and this perhaps broke his heart and he decided to take his life.
So he entered his room at 8:00 pm put the muzzle of the unregistered single-barrel gun to his throat, reclined and used his leg to press the trigger.
He said that one Agyemang Tabiri reported the incident to the police and after investigation the body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary at Half Assin.
DSP Dzaneku said the police suspected no foul play; explaining that the position form where the shot was fired and where the deceased lay showed that the cartridge got stuck in the throat.
