Day School System Advocated
THE District Chief Executive for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam, Mr Peter Light Koomson, has stressed the need for the government to establish more day-schools in the country’s educational system.
“The developed countries’ educational systems are focused on the day school environment and this has helped them to achieve the noble objectives of quality education,” he noted.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Promoting quality education in a day-school environment; prospects and challenges’, at an awards day of the Takoradi Senior High School, he said for one to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the day and boarding school systems, “it will be necessary to analyse the cost of operation”.
For instance, the substantial expenditures of the boarding school system are higher than the day school in terms of infrastructural development and acquisition of materials and equipment to ensure quality educational delivery.
He believed that the prospects of offering quality education within a day school environment were very good.
“The establishment of more day schools is critical if we, as a nation want to elevate our educational system to the same level as the developed nations,” he said.
Mr. Koomson said “a requisite dynamic human resource base for socio-economic development at all levels is assured, if Africa would go for a day school”.
At any rate, he said, most economic giant countries have day school institutions.
“It behoves us to accept the necessity of this change.”
Mr Koomson reiterated that students who were not disciplined could never achieve success in all endeavours of their lives, adding that the secret of the success stories of many people in many spheres of lives could be attributed to discipline.
