From Samuel Opare Lartey, Trom-Koforidua
A retired educationist, Mrs. Lilian Ofori Adjei, has advised parents to have the pre-requisite knowledge, skills and good attitude for the upbringing of their children.
She explained that, some parents give birth because they are married and others because the society and their families are expecting babies from them, without knowing the responsibilities attached to it.
He was speaking on the theme, “The Importance of pre-school education”, at the first graduation ceremony of the Anointed Royals Early Childhood Development Center at Trom, Koforidua.
Mrs Adjei appealed to parents not to allow their “businesses to over ride the care and education of their children.”
She called on parents to train their children in a homely manner so that the children would grow to love the home.
She advised them not to regard other expenditure to be more important than the plans they have for their children’s future.
“The world has now become a small village and if we play with the future of our childrens education it would be at the expense of our own future and that of the nation,”she cautioned.
Mrs Adjei also urged parents not to use the day care centre’s as a place to dump their children so that they could get the chance to go about their errands.
On the part of teachers, she urged the teachers, as they are care givers, to learn to create an atmosphere suitable for the modern child.
The pre-school, she said should be a supplement and complement of the home so that the children do not loose focus, hope and interest in education.
The Proprietress of the centre, Mrs Adelaide Asamoah, said that children are a gift from God and that there was no better gift for the child on the part of parents than education.
She stressed the importance of the early years of life as key period for the development of intelligence, personality and balance.
Mrs Asamoah said, the main objective of establishing the school was to give the children sound academic and moral foundation geared towards a brighter future needed for the development of the nation.
She appealed to parents to ensure that their children get better education from good and hygienic environment.
The children thrilled their parents and invited guests with modelling and recitals and other forms of entertainment.
