The acting Secretary General of the Ghana National Commission for UNESCO, Ms. Silvia Lutterodt, has charged students of teacher training colleges, especially the females of the SDA College of Education, to frown on all forms of indecent and immoral dressing.
She advised them to conform to the college’s decent dress code they have been introduced to, to enable them to become role models for the youth and the children they would teach.
Ms. Lutterodt was addressing the second matriculation of the SDA College of Education at Asokore near Koforidua, in the Eastern Region, at which 274 students, including 95 females, were admitted.
She described some of the unacceptable dresses as skimpy, flirting, short skirts, show your breast blouses, short blouses and tight trousers, noting that such fashions were not part of the Ghanaian culture.
Ms. Lutterodt urged the students to concerntrate on their studies to enable them to pass their final examination well without indulging in any form of examination malpractices and refrain from stealing certificates of their colleagues.
“Uphold the highest standard of academic integrity in your new community,” she advised them.
Ms. Lutterodt noted that the misuse of the mobile phone and the internet had corrupted the values of children and the youth to acquire certain strange values and behaviours, and advised the students to desist from such practices.
The guest of honour, Nana Prof. Sefa Dei, Adomakwahene of Asokore, congratulated the students and urged them to ensure that they influence the minds of the youth in the society.
The principal of the college, Mr. Adomah Akumfi-Ameyaw, administered the Matriculation and the Declaration Oaths.
