Gusheigu District Assembly in the Northern Region has presented a number of relief items to some victims of the recent rainstorm in the area.
More than 1,000 people in Gushegu and other communities in the Northern Region were rendered homeless by a severe rainstorm that hit the area.
The property worth thousands of Ghana cedis were destroyed including school blocks, clinic and private houses and mosque.
The District Chief Executive Officer (DCE), Alhaji Alhassan Fuseini who disclosed this to Ghanaian Times in an interview mentioned that a number of the victims were given food stuffs and building materials.
According to him, the move by the assembly was to lessen, the suffering of the victims who were going through difficulties as a result of the disaster.
Alhaji Fuseini noted that some of the victims, especially women were finding it difficult to cope with the situation as most of their belongings were destroyed by the rainstorm.
The DCE also assured the education authority that the assembly would mobilise the needed resources to help rehabilitate affected schools
Alhaji Fuseini, however, appealed to Nation Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other benevolent society to go to aid of the victims.
Nafisa Iddirisu, a victim, commended the assembly for its quick response saying, “this donation is timely.
