The 53rd Asantehene annual gold cup golf championships will be hosted at the Royal Golf Course, Kumasi from August 13 to 15, 2010.
The flagship event of the Royal club will be under the distinguished patronage of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.
Club Captain K. O Agyemang says more than 200 Golfers from golf courses across the length and breadth of the country will battle for honours. It will also attract golfers from the West Africa Sub region including Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Togo and Burkina Faso.
Professional golfers who will battle for cash over 72 holes for four days will however tee-off on Tuesday with a Grande flag raising ceremony on Friday to start the amateur programme.
Amateur men and ladies will play 36 holes each in the scratch and handicap division while the juniors will engage in a one – day 18 – holes scratch.
The event which has been on going since its inception in 1955 will this year have MTN the communications giant in association with Ghana Union Assurance, PHC Motors and Guinness Ghana limited and others as sponsors.
Kojo Kyei of host club, Royal Club (amateur men), Vivienne Kouame of Cote d’Ivoire (ladies) and Victor Brave Mensah from Tema (Professionals) as defending titlists.
