Fourteen suspected criminals including three students have been arrested by the Asante-Mampong Divisional Police in a swoop at some ghettos at Mampong-Tadiem in Ashanti Region.
The ghettos are linked to the sale of hard drugs, robberies and other violent crimes.
They include Richard Akwawule, farmer; Kwadwo Baffour Awuah, unemployed, George Ofori, trader, Obin Iddi, trader; Danso Nsor, Alex Sarpong, and Isha Zakan, all students.
Others are Michael Afedzi, Hagan Acquah, both masons; Kofi Alhassan, labourer; Patrick Afrifa, farmer, and Prince Yeboah, mason.
Substances in wrap and foils suspected to be cannabis and cocaine, were seized from them by the police.
The Divisional Commander of the Asante-Mampong, Superintendent Solomon Ntim, speaking after the swoop, said some of the ghettos had also become notorious for cannabis smoking and cocaine sniffing as well as hide-outs for criminals.
“We are therefore determined to do everything to check the drug menace to improve security,” he said.
He warned that the raids would continue and vowed to make life uncomfortable for hard drug users in the area as it stepped up its raids as their hideout.
He reminded parents of the need to do more to help protect their children from bad peer influences, adding that the youth should not be denied parental care and guidance because of economic pressures.
The Divisional Commander, said the suspects had already been put before court and remanded into Police custody to enable them continue with their investigations.
