The Finals of the Accra Seniors Open Tennis came of over the weekend with Joseph Doe Adjani beating Abeiku Bentsi by 6-1, 6-0 to win the Men’s 35+ singles category of the competition.
For the Men’s 45+ finals, Abdul Karim Dowuna also won by 6-2, 6-4 against Narh Tetteh. Bruno Leckrec and Lankai Lartey went to the finals for the Men’s 55+ competitions but Bruno proved superior by winning 6-4, 6-3.
In the senior most category, Prempeh Bannerman smashed out Mike Eghan by 6-3, 6-4 to carry the day.
Faustina Tagoe also beat her opponent Augustina Yamak by 6-4, 6-4 to win the Ladies 35+ singles category. In their 25+ singles, Kate Coleman carried the day by outwitting her challenger, Anuette Cruckshark by 6-2, 6-1.
A side attraction game was played between Albert Arthur and Joshua Osei Annan which ended 6-4, 6-7, 6-0 in favour of Albert.
For the doubles, Frank De-Souza and John Powell teamed up to beat Abeiku Bentsi and Dr. P. Bankah by 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in their 35+ category.
An all-play-all game was played between Emmanuel Addy, Brain Bennieh and Abdul Karim, Dr. Max Adjei in the 45+ category.
Addy and Benneih teamed up again to beat Kofi Boakye and Douglas Osei in the Men’s 55+ doubles category by 6-1, 6-1. In the Men’s Super doubles finals for 65+, Prempeh Bannerman and David Churcher beat Saban Annan and Frank Thumbler by 6-3, 6-3.
To spice up the day, a mixed doubles was played between Kate Coleman who joined forces with Isaac Dapaah to beat Anette Cruckshark and Bejamin Ababio by 6-4, 6-7, 7-6.
Winners took home products from LG while the first to fourth winners of the Men’s Open singles took home GH¢400, GH¢200, GH¢100 Aand GH¢50 respectively presented by Juvita.
The competition brought together about 150 players and the organizer were grateful to their sponsors; Somotex, Japan Motors, SIC-Insurance, Juvita, All Alfra Electricals, Bank for Africa (Ghana), Mr. Pope Tamakloe and Mr. Nick Akpebu. The tournament was played under the auspices of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Nii Armah Ashitey.
