A unique pageant that creates a platform for young ladies to exploit their beauty and intellect to protect the environment and green the earth, has been launched in Accra.
The Miss Earth-Ghana pageant is aimed at encouraging pretty young ladies to use their talents to identify various resources to promote environmental awareness and preservation. The event is being organized by Marketing Bees Network (MBN) in collaboration with Events Galore Limited and First Royal Company Limited, the Miss Earth franchise holders in Ghana.
It is supported by the Ministries of Environment, Science and Technology, and Land and Natural Resources, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency, Wild Life Division and the Department of Parks and Gardens.
Twenty (20) beauties have been selected to compete for the crown.
After engaging in several competitive activities in the coming weeks, 10 out of the 20 will contest for the crown at the National Theatre on July 21, this year, in an encounter that the organisers say will be one of the most memorable shows in the annals of the country’s beauty pageant history.
The Event Director, Ms. Nkechi Onuoha, said the contestants would travel around the country, sanitizing and beautifying Ghana’s beaches in line with the objectives of the pageant and the title sponsors, construction firm, ACI.
She noted that the beauties would tour Accra and Kumasi and engage in awareness creation for environmental protection, after which they will embark on environmental preservation activities, such as tree planting, community cleaning and environmental talks in selected schools. They will also hold “Eco-shows” and themed photo-shoots.
In the mean time, the delegates have been put into four groups, named Land, Water, Air and Fire, which, according to the organizers, represent the earth’s elements.
Ms. Onuoha pointed out that the delegates’ activities would be filmed and screened to audiences in special ‘Miss Earth-Ghana diaries’ for the general public to watch and vote for their favourite delegates.
The Acting Chief Executive Officer of ACI Constructions, title sponsors of the event, Moses Pumpuni, expressed the hope that the organisers would do a good job to ensure the success of the programme.
He said his outfit was very much committed to the protection of the environment, hence the decision to sponsor the Miss Earth-Ghana event.
